Compatibility

Before ordering, please verify that your OGY speakers are equipped with a removable phase plug.

The OGY Brass Phase Plug is compatible only with EMS LB5 drivers featuring a removable M5 threaded phase plug.

A small number of early production EMS LB5 drivers were manufactured with a permanently fixed phase plug instead of the later threaded M5 version. These drivers cannot be upgraded by simply replacing the phase plug.

How to check?

Simply try to unscrew the existing wooden phase plug by turning it counter-clockwise.

• If it unscrews, your OGY is compatible.
• If it does not move, do not force it. Your driver most likely belongs to the early fixed version.

Compatibility cannot be determined reliably by the production year of your loudspeakers. During production, both driver versions were used. The only reliable way to verify compatibility is to check whether the existing phase plug can be unscrewed.

About the Upgrade

The OGY Brass Phase Plug is precision-machined from solid brass and finished with durable gold plating to protect the surface against oxidation.

Its geometry is identical to the original wooden phase plug developed by EMS specifically for the LB5 full-range driver. Only the material has changed.

While the geometry determines how high-frequency wavefronts propagate around the phase plug, the material influences the interaction at its surface through its stiffness, acoustic impedance and internal damping.

The objective was never to change the character of OGY, but to refine it.

Listeners typically describe the result as:

• more realistic decay of metallic instruments
• improved sense of air and spatial openness
• greater overall refinement without altering the loudspeaker’s tonal balance

Installation

Installation takes only a few minutes.

Simply unscrew the original wooden phase plugs and replace them with the brass versions.

No modifications, adhesives or special tools are required.

Please note: The brass phase plug is available as an optional upgrade for existing OGY owners. Every new pair of OGY loudspeakers ordered with the optional brass phase plugs is also supplied with the original wooden phase plugs, allowing you to compare both versions at any time.
